LUMBUNG FOREVER

As time goes by: The love remains

Friedrichsplatz was completely covered with people and the mood was exciting. At the end of the final event the documenta family was hugging and they all were cheering. A giant applause came up, when the Lord Mayor  firstly said thank you to famous curator Sabine Schormann, who had been attacked the same  infamous way by the published opinion as her predecessor  Annette Kuhlenkampff five years ago. When the Indonesian curator collective entered the stage to say thank you to the whole world but also to their families at home, no one could stop the people cheering. A banner was shown: Danke, ruangrupa and all artists.

LUMBUNG FOREVER were shown in big letters among the crowd. Australia`s super star Richard Bell expressed it clearly: These one hundred days were a wonderful journey. In his Embassy tent the charismatic man from Down Under was the outstanding individual within the exhibition consciously being determined by collectives. To form a team out of some 1500 artists also is a merit of ruangrupa. documenta fifteen was a show of inter action, of dialogue and peace in the sign of a barbaric war de facto in the middle of Europe. The difficult problems of our time only can be solved in a common manner; prejudices and enemy images are highly counterproductive. Lumbung is a brilliant concept, both in life and in art. Critical reflection is essential  as human common sense. Never so much warmth of heart and joy of life had been seen at a documenta before ruangrupa had come and they had to prepare the exhibition under the toughest Corona circumstances for two years. That shows courage, that shows style.  Global South is getting more and more influence in the world of art. Documenta is owned by all, the artists and the people, like the Olympics above all are made for the athletes and the fans. The perspective of the Global South, first by the the country of the biggest Muslim people in the world, Indonesia, is so much different  from the Europe concentrated way of thinking. Things being good for the Western interests being fought for in a missionary manner, is not considered being positive by the highly developed cultures of the South. In the old days Willy Brandt and Olof Palme had given decisive impulses, but worldwide conflicts did not leave so much of it in an age of globalization. documenta fifteen had produced new, creative ideas and excellent standards all over the world by the Lumbung concept. That makes documenta fifteen so unique and creates values for the decades to come, like  being very difficult. documenta fifteen shows ways out of danger by professional information, enormous creativity, often very tough criticism, but also by a big portion of humour. ruangrupa created timeless and remaining values. The people all over the world love it.

In July Claes Oldenburg, the creator of the Pickaxe  at the Hiroshima riverbank, had left us forever.

What will she keep of documenta fifteen, young  African female  artist was asked by Richard Bell at his last Embassy Talk, two hours, before the lights at the Fridericianum were switched off. The love remains, was her answer. The song As Times Go By was written by Herman Hupfeld early in 1931 to become famous by the Casablanca movie starring Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman eleven years later. The German version was created by Klaus Lage.

LUMBUNG FOREVER
